Organic waste accounts for more than a third of California’s waste stream. If organic waste is landfilled, it starts decomposing and generating methane, a greenhouse gas 25 times worse than CO₂that makes a significant contribution to global warming.

That’s a great reason to recycle: by recycling our organic and green waste we can reduce greenhouse emissions. It also helps create a more sustainable economy by generating climate-friendly energy and valuable fertilizers for our farmers and growers.

How Can You Help?

You can help by collecting your organic waste separately. Here are some easy tips to make the most of your green waste bin.

Tip no. 1:

Don’t waste money on compostable baggies. Just put your organic waste directly into your green bin.

Tip no. 2:

Did you know you can put all sorts of organic waste in your green bin? Leaves, grass clippings, produce trimmings… and SO much more.

Our digester loves to eat:

Kitchen scraps from fruits and vegetables
Kitchen scraps from meats
Dairy and egg waste (including shells)
Coffee grounds and tea leaves
Meat (including bones)
Fish and shellfish (including bones)
Fat
Lawn clippings

Our digester can’t eat:

Plastic bags (even the compostable ones)
Lumber and wood scraps
Cans and glass
Diapers
Pet and animal waste
Rocks and dirt
Tree stumps
Nursery pots
